A roam through the farming country between the villages of Heighington and Bolam in the Tees Valley area. The terrain types covered include lanes, fields and very quiet country roads.
The route almost equally runs either side of the busy A68 trunk road. The walk starts from the charming village of Heighington, that was a former winner of the BBC's Perfect Village. Tracks, lanes and fields take you to the tiny whitewashed farming hamlet of Houghton-Le-Side. From here mainly field-paths take the walker up to the lofty village of Bolam, from where there are good views looking south over the Cleveland Hills. The return leg of the walk is again a mix of field- and road-walking but on roads that carry virtually no traffic.
