Howtown - Rampsgill Head - Angletarn Pikes - Martindale - Howtown
Starting from Howtown, you gain height quickly as you climb the ridge of Steel Fell. After a quick descent you then climb on to the backbone of High Street. The summits of Red Crag, High Raise and Rampsgill Head are quickly attained as you follow the Roman road. From Rampsgill Head you could make a detour and climb to the summit of High Street itself or, like I did, leave it for another day and head for The Knott. From here we then walk to Angletarn Pikes. Watch out for the red deer grazing on the slopes of Rest Dodd. Once at Angle Tarn rest awhile and soak up the atmosphere. The way back to the car is by the unfrequented ridge leading to Beda Fell and then a gradual descent onto the valley floor.
