Ingleton - Killerby - Summerhouse - Denton - High Coniscliffe - Piercebridge - Gainford - Langton - Ingleton
A virtually flat walk through the pleasant farming country that straddles the County Durham and Tees Valley border. Two-thirds of the walk passes through both arable and grazing fields and a third travels along a delightful path as it follows the course of the River Tees. The route visits eight villages, all with very different characters, one of which is Piercebridge with its extensive Roman ruins. The Roman fort (Morbium) which dates from about 260AD, was probably sited here to protect the bridge across the River Tees that carried Dere Street, the main supply route from York to Hadrian's Wall.
