There are many low-level walks in Langdale on the Walkingworld website but this one is different. It is linear, going the whole length of the valley from south to north, following Langdale Beck past Elterwater all the way to the point where the valley divides into Oxendale and Mickleden. Moreover, it can be done using public transport for most of the year. It is not difficult to follow, is now mostly on paths rebuilt after destruction in the storms of 2015 and passes several inns en route. The views, of course, are outstanding, taking in Lingdale Fell, Side Pike, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and all the Langdale Pikes. It is a delightful walk in summer but would make a good bad-weather alternative to going on the tops.
