Starting off at the Malham Visitor Centre, the route follows the crowds heading along the Pennine Way for Malham Cove, but turns off at the other end of the village and leads along a gently climbing trackway to pick up a much quieter pathway. This route runs parallel to the Pennine Way but is about 100m higher so the views over Malham Dale and Malham Cove are excellent.
The route gently climbs higher and crosses several fields, some with extensive limestone pavements, before joining the Pennine Way at the head of Ing Scar. The valley floor below Ing Scar is followed all the way to the top of Malham Cove before following the Pennine Way south below the cove and back to the start of the walk.
