The walk includes some level walking with ample opportunity to admire the views. At points in the walk the totality of Bannerdale and at other points Boredale, can be viewed. You may well see deer from England's oldest herd of red deer, understood to have been in existence for 300 years.

The climb out of Bannerdale is a reasonably gentle gradient, whilst the descent into Boredale is initially fairly steep over loose stone, later levelling out and joining the minor road towards the start. In addition to the deer you see birds of prey, ravens and sheep, mainly Swaledale and Herdwick breeds.

This is a delightful walk especially when the deer are rutting. The way down is a little tricky, just watch your step.
