A really nice walk up onto the moor on the northern slopes of the Upper Teesdale Valley above Middleton-in-Teesdale, then descending the moor to pass through the valley of the Eggleston Burn, to emerge onto the main road through the valley. A delightful walk along a walled lane then follows, that takes you to the River Tees for a glorious upstream riverside stroll to return to Middleton.
The walk starts from the centre of the town before a little pavement-walking followed by lane- and field-walking starts the pull up to a metalled road. A longish stroll up the road follows that reveals great panoramic views of Upper Teesdale before the route leaves the road and descends through Open Access land to intersect the valley of the Eggleston Burn. A pleasant stroll through the valley delivers the walker to the main road through the dale. From here a delightful walled lane takes you to Beckstones Wath footbridge over the River Tees, where the route then tracks the river upstream through a mixture of terrain to arrive back into Middleton-in-Teesdale.
