A nice little family walk in the Upper Teesdale Valley, this mainly flat walk from Middleton-in-Teesdale follows the River Tees on the outward leg and returns along a well-used railway path with a little field-walking and a visit to a charming Teesdale village in the middle section.
From the centre of the village in Middleton-in-Teesdale the walk takes the short route through the village to the River Tees, where it then closely follows the picturesque wooded riverside path through a variety of terrain that includes close riverside paths as well as undulating and flat field-walking. The path then crosses the river at the fairly new Beckstones Wath footbridge, soon to intersect and pass through the charming old village of Mickleton. From here the route travels along the scenic Teesdale Way Railway Walk for two-thirds of the way back to Middleton and concludes with pleasant, easy field-walking to finish the walk.
