An easy ten-miler through the delightful countryside straddling the County border between South Durham and North Yorkshire. A little over a quarter of the walk is unavoidably on roads, albeit with almost no traffic. However, the off-road parts including charming woods, riverside paths and easy walking through fields and along lanes more than make up for the inconvenience.

The walk starts from the North Yorkshire village of Newsham before crossing the county border to pass through the sleepy County Durham village of Barningham. From here the route heads north on roads, woods and through fields to visit the tiny hamlet of Greta Bridge. A little field-work follows up to Mortham Tower, a medieval fortified house. A change of direction east along a section of the Teesdale Way then leads the walker through fields to arrive at the River Tees at the former Lido of Whorlton. After delightful riverside walking the route passes through the historic hamlet of Wycliffe, where it then heads south for a final change of direction. Following a nice little wooded walk, the route passes through a series of fields to cross the A66 trunk road before a section of road-work returns the walker to Newsham.
