The new Racecourse Connection Trail will eventually be part of the Teign Estuary Trail, which once completed will run from Quay Town in Newton Abbot via the Passage House Inn at Hackney and on to Teignmouth. What great scenery the final walk will give across the River Teign and down to the estuary. N.B: please note the Racecourse Trail can be shut on race days, so check the website to see what dates there are for race days.

Newton Abbot:
the town is famous for its ancient market which goes back to 1200AD and is still very busy today. Tucker's Maltings is the only traditional malt house in Great Britain which is open to the public. Tuckers produce malt for over thirty breweries and enough to brew 15 million pints of beer a year.

In the centre of Newton Abbot stands the ancient tower of St Leonard. The tower is all that remains of the medieval chapel of St Leonard, founded back in 1220.

Kingsteignton:
this was once the largest village in England, but now it is a town, mainly done to prevent it being integrated into Newton Abbot.

The walk starts in Quay Town next to the Templar Way; it then crosses the magnificent new bridge over the River Teign to take you along the new trail. Further along the river path is the Passage House Inn, before you climb the slope to the fields and open country. Once up and across the large-span footbridge over the A380 Torquay road the route takes you into the urban area of Kingsteignton, through some of the old section with the odd thatched cottage. Then finally it goes back into the Hackney Marsh Nature Reserve back to Quay Town.
