The lower eastern fells are much less visited then other parts of Lakeland, therefore solitude can still be found here even when the rest of the Lakes are bustling. This walk I hope will indeed provide such a place of peace and quiet. The walk starts from Sadgill and includes fine views of the surrounding higher and lower fells and far-reaching vistas of South Lakeland and Morecambe Bay and returns in part up the delightful Longsleddale Valley. In addition to the walk the drive up the delightful valley of Longsleddale is well worth it in its own right, though it must be said it's not for the motorway driver, as it is very narrow and full of twists and turns.

Very pleasant little walk thoroughly recommended with good views across southern Lakeland. To save driving quite so far along the tiny windy road in Longsleddale we stopped (parked for £2, summer 2011) opposite the church and by the little village hall where you'll find very nice toilets with their own visitors' book! We walked further along the road for about half a km and turned left at Wad's Howe over the river and then immediately right to shortly find waymark 11 and Hollin Root. At wm 15 you can either turn right to continue to Sadgill as per the guide or left, through the farm and uphill to waymark 3. Directions throughout are very good.
