The walk crosses fields given over either to grazing or to growing hay and drops to Shap Abbey before turning to pass high above the River Lowther, with the abbey below. It soon reaches the village of Keld with its chapel and just behind the village, the Goggleby Stone. The going is very easy and there are no really steep climbs, apart from the short return up the road from the abbey.
