This is an undemanding walk over easy terrain to the ruins of ancient Shap Abbey. Easy walking through meadows follows, with only one stiff climb which is up the lane from the river to Rosgill Village. This is followed by a high-level walk with river below and the eastern fells beyond. Before the walk finishes there is an opportunity to visit Keld Chapel (National Trust) and wonder at the Goggleby Stone, erected in Neolithic times. The only other walkers you are likely to meet will be on Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk, which passes this way.
