This picturesque circular walk in the southern most reaches of County Durham includes a nice mix of field-, lane-, woods- and road-walking. There are several nice little features on the route, that is probably at its best in the spring.

From the scenic village of Staindrop the route heads south through fields to the village of Winston, passing on the way through the quiet little villages of Cleatlam and Little Newsham. From Winston the route visits first the charming old church of St Andrew's with a delightful panoramic outlook, before entering the lovely wooded area running alongside the always interesting River Tees for a truly beautiful riverside walk. A little road-walking follows before the route passes through the grounds of Selaby Hall and then through the absolutely delightful area around Alwent Mill. A little road- and then field-walking completes this enjoyable walk.

Completed this very enjoyable walk on 19th Sept 2022. Just a couple of small issues with the route. The field between waypoints 24 & 25 now has a barbed-wire fence across the middle which you need to 'step through'. At waypoint 25 the 'narrow, fence-enclosed lane' is very overgrown and impassable (although all of the public footpath signs are in place). An alternative route has developed from the right corner of the field and to the east of the small holdings.
