A pleasant, easy to follow ramble through the fields in the fertile agricultural area to the north-east of Barnard Castle. This is primarily a field-path route with a little walking on surfaced roads without pavements.
From Stainton the walk heads north through fields and a pleasant gully to pass through Streatlam Grange Farm. A little road-walk follows before the route changes direction and leads south-east through a long section of fields to arrive at Woodend Farm. Another change of direction heads south with a mix of lane- and field-walking before the direction changes again through the Humbleton area for an easy ramble along farm tracks and a quiet surfaced lane to return to Stainton.
