A circular walk up onto the moors to the north of Stanhope. The outward leg rises up Wolsingham Park Moor to the highest point of the walk to Collier Law on the hilltop. The remainder of the route is almost all downhill as the walk intersects the Waskerley Way before starting the descent of Stanhope Common and then down through the valley of the Stanhope Burn. The final leg of the walk passes through a disused quarry and a pleasant narrow wood to return to Stanhope.

From Stanhope the route heads uphill to pass through Ashes Quarry then a series of fields and a wooded gully before the walk starts the strenuous climb up to Fatherley Hill Currick on Wolsingham Park Moor. A gently rising walk then follows up to Collier Law at the summit of the moor. From here is virtually all downhill walking as the route briefly intersects and follows the Waskerley Way railway path as far as Parkhead Station before entering Stanhope Common. A descent down the common leads into the varied and delightful valley of the Stanhope Burn where a little paddling is required to progress through the valley. The route then passes through a worked-out quarry and a lovely little wood before a short steep descent back into Stanhope.

2/8/2019 - Bill Simon

This is an excellent walk which we completed on 06/02/2019, showcasing the moorland terrain around Stanhope. The instructions are clear and the tracks and footpaths are generally easy to follow, although visibility on the high moorland sections could be an issue if attempted in poor weather. At WM10, as suggested in the guide, crossing the fence at the Currick on Fatherley Hill is recommended as this puts you onto a good track and avoids path finding through heather. Also at WM13 there is an option to take the short track to the Trig Point at Collier Law and then keeping the fence on the right follow the clear path along the fence line to WM15 at Parkhead Station.
