This walk starts at Tarn Hows, a beautiful tarn which is actually made up of multiple tarns and was created by damming Tom Gill, one of the first places passed on the walk. The route takes in the tarn, which is very picturesque and provides some wonderful picnic spots. The walk continues to some high spots, taking in some panoramic views over the Langdales and again this part of the walk makes for lovely picnic spots and is fairly quiet even in peak seasons. A short detour from the walk, which can be reached by going left just after the gate at Waymark 3, takes you down Tom Gill, at the bottom of which you will find the Yew Tree Farm Tea Shop which was used as 'Hill Top' in the film Miss Potter. The tea shop sells wonderful cakes and teas and is worth the detour.

It seems that the Yew Tree Farm Tea Shop has been closed since 2009.

This is a great walk that would also be good done in the anticlockwise direction. The directions are good and easy to follow. If you have time a detour to Black Crag (summit of Black Fell) would be well worth the extra effort. This involves following the clear path just before WM18 for less than half a mile. The views from the top are outstanding for such a modest peak.
