You can see why James Herriot was so fond of West Burton, it really is a thoroughly pleasant place. West Burton Falls are hidden away in a secluded glade just below the village. You'll want to linger and take a photo, but after you do, we can offer you the choice of two walks in the nearby hills. The shorter walk merely cuts across a woodland path from the outward leg to the inward leg.

If you opt for the shorter of the walks, this is a 2.25km (1.4 miles) walk with 30m height gain. It should take you around thirty minutes.

Really enjoyed the longer version this weekend, unfortunately rather misty so the views back over West Burton spoilt a bit. The climb up is very steep in places and some of the gap stiles are so narrow we had to lift our labradoodle over them. As normal watch out for sheep but otherwise fine for the dog. On a clear day the views will be excellent.

Thank you to Paul Nightingale for his help with the text in the walk. The database had duplicated waymark 5 - correct photo and text now reinstated. WW Administrator and Sam Roebuck

A good walk, but a couple of corrections are needed to the text... At Pt 5. Cross the stile and turn half right towards a gap in the wall about 30m away. Pt 7 text is duplicated. The correct instruction should be "Cross the stile next to the gate and enter an enclosed track between two stone walls. Continue on this track until you reach a junction".
