Walk starts opposite Windermere Railway Station and briefly follows A591 before beginning a gentle ascent through woodland and low fells to Orrest Head. View from summit is excellent after such a short ascent and takes in full length of Lake Windermere, offering a 360-degree view of surrounding fells, distant coastline and the Pennines. An information plaque identifies some of the peaks on west side of the lake. Descent is more direct via a well-constructed path. Parking and refreshment options are at start.
