Wolsingham is a village that provides the starting point for numerous great walks along Weardale and up into the surrounding hills. This circular walk is no exception as it rises through fields and along lanes to enter the Open Access Land on Wolsingham North Moor. The route then descends steeply into the valley of the Waskerley Beck to cross the dam at the head of the serene and always delightful Tunstall Reservoir. The walk then sedately starts the gradual descent of the valley, initially along a quiet road and then through fields, to return to Wolsingham to be rewarded with the promise of deserved refreshments.
The walk starts from the large Demesne Mill car park and passes through the streets and fields at the north-eastern end of the village before the route takes to the roads. Easy lane-walking then takes the walker up to Open Access Land where a little rough moorland-walking is experienced, followed by a little easier walking on shooters' tracks. The walk then starts to descend steeply through a series of fields to arrive at Tunstall Reservoir. The return leg of the walk starts with road-walking followed by field- and lane-walking as the route visits the centre of Wolsingham before returning to the car park.
