Initially a long pull up to the crest of the ridge for a magnificent panorama of most of the famous fells, with visits to two tiny hamlets to soak up the ambience of this remote area.

Thanks to William Kembery for submitting this walk. Although we have walked in the Dales a lot, this was a new area for us. As a general point, it is important for those following these walks to realise things (especially the photos) can look very different in different weather and different seasons, and of course with the passage of time. This was a cold but clear January day (this walk needs to be undertaken in clear weather conditions) with some snow on the tops. It was a trudge to point 3. Great views afforded from this point though. We only experienced one 'gate in the wall' and no ladder stile. Point 6 on the map should be pointing to the track. Good walk for dogs but just keep an eye out for sheep on the fells. Birds - woodcock, grouse, dippers and common gulls. Some good pubs nearby, e.g. The George at Hubberholme, potentially White Lion at Cray (but being refurbished at the time).
