Kirkby Stephen sits within the fascinating and ancient landscape of the Upper Eden Valley. The land here has been worked for many centuries; the evidence is there in plenty if you know where to look. A particular form of medieval terracing, called lynchets, can be seen on many of the slopes surrounding the town. This walk takes you past some of the best examples.

The walk also takes you down some ancient tracks and paths, including Hartley Lane which has a fine, though short, example of a holloway.
