From the hustle of Carlisle, via quiet riverside paths, county lanes and a march along the line of the wall, we reach Lanercost Priory on this section of the Hadrian's Wall walk.

Leaving the Sands Leisure Centre, we stroll past the golf course, crossing the memorial bridge into Rickerby Park and on to Linsock, leaving the hustle of Carlisle behind us. We then walk alongside the River Eden for a short while to reach Crosby, where we then follow country lanes up onto the line of Hadrian's Wall.

A lovely stretch of walking ahead of us now, where the line of the wall, ditch and vallum can be clearly seen as we reach Oldwall, then walk on to Newtown. Here we lose the wall for a short while but are rewarded with a lovely stretch through woodland, where we cross the Cam Beck before reaching Walton.

A short road section takes us down over Dovecote Bridge. Here our first visible remains of a turret can be seen on the left, before crossing back across the fields with more remains of wall to be seen and reaching Haytongate. The owner here often has refreshments available for weary walkers.

Leaving the wall, we walk down to Lanercost Priory and the end of this section.
