This walk is to the south and then the east of Appleby, using bridleways for the first half before turning north over Appleby golf course on the way back. There are good views of the eastern Lakeland fells but the outstanding views are of the northern Pennines, including the highest summit, Cross Fell and the nearer Dufton Pike. The route is easy underfoot, has few stiles and little climbing.
