A varied circular walk, mainly through the busier eastern part of the popular Hamsterley Forest. The whole of the forest is Open Access Land and all of this route within the forest is on clearly marked tracks, most of which are well-maintained and wide in nature. Some of the tracks outside of the forest can be a little muddy in the wet months of the year.

The walk starts from the hamlet of Bedburn just to the east of Hamsterley Forest. A short walk along a lane and through trees delivers the walker to the Visitor Centre in the forest. From here the route heads up through the trees on wide tracks along the south side of the forest before descending to arrive at the habitated part called The Grove. The route then crosses the Bedburn Beck and rises along a picturesque lane to descend and cross the Ayhope Beck, before turning east for a pleasant flat walk through trees alongside the beck to intersect the main road through the forest. The final leg of the walk is along a delightful track to leave the forest and return to Bedburn along the surfaced access road.
