A long day out, using open access land. The walk starts easily enough and it is not until you begin your long ascent to Cold Fell (but not to the top) and over that, that the walk gets interesting. The open access land is rough and ready like all good open areas of relatively untouched land. Animals and birds galore, accompany you down to the base of the river. You pass an old quarry long unused, and if you wish to deviate slightly there are even waterfalls for you to enjoy.
Using the fencelines is the best way for you to get down to the ford, but you can go wherever you like, and explore to your hearts content. I will add though, if the weather is wet, the ground may be boggy, but that is like the whole of this area. Cracking!
Map reading isn’t essential, but it does help, I used both my maps to complete the walk.
