Ditchling Country Park - St George's Retreat - Ditchling Country Park

Starting in a designer Country Park with a wheelchair trail as well as a nature trail, take off through woodland to view the splendid facilities of St George's retirement home (I'm already looking forward to my Bath chair). Visit the Royal Oak pub and back through fields. There are a number of stiles and large dogs may have trouble. You don't need to download the walk if doing the wheelchair trail.

Ditchling Common is home to many rare heathland species and there are a few adders, plus a tick or two about. The Augustinian Care Group, nursing nuns of St George's Retreat Nursing Home, who have over many years done sterling work looking after the chronic sick, especially those with dementia, are being replaced by other professional nurses as their numbers dwindle, but funding continues by utilising the grounds as a retirement village, St George's Park.
NB: the Royal Oak has recently closed. It is not clear whether it will reopen or not. You may therefore prefer the short cut at Waymark 6.
