This is a lovely, easy walk, excellent if short on time. We often do this walk on the day we are leaving. It crosses five bridges along the beautiful Langdale Beck and provides three opportunities for food and drink at two pubs and a cafe. It begins in Elterwater, which has the Britannia Inn, then travels along the bank of the Langdale Beck, crossing a stone slab-bridge and a wooden footbridge before crossing the new bridge built in 1818. It passes through Thang, which has Brambles Cafe. It then passes the Wainwright Inn which is hugely popular, before crossing the beck once more via the picturesque Chapel Stile Bridge.

Note that this route can be flooded after heavy rainfall.

6/25/2020 - Richard Harrison

I did this walk on 24th June 2020. At way mark 8 the bridge has been moved and also the stile over the fence. There are signs at both ends of the permitted route warning that the bridge has been removed. Just down stream of the bridge site, there are some stepping stones which I used and could be used in low flow conditions. I don't know who the landowner is or why they have deliberately removed the bridge. Richard Harrison
