In an area which is full of very good walks, this circular walk rewards
you with terrific views and interesting features at every stage.

It starts in the picturesque village of Elterwater which has some lovely eating places excellent to finish the walk with.

It includes the uphill ascent to the top of Loughrigg, well worth the effort as the views from the top are breathtaking. It’s well worth doing this walk on a clear day so that the views from the top can be well appreciated.

On the way up after climbing a short hill up to High Close, which contains some lovely exotic trees and rhododendrons, and passing through Deerbolts Wood, a beautiful view of Grasmere appears. Upon climbing up to the top of Loughrigg Fell, there are panoramic views of Grasmere, Helvellyn, Windermere, Ambleside and the Langdales.

There are some lovely spots around the top to have a picnic and take some time out to enjoy the views. Coming down the otherside is more leisurely and a nice pleasant descent provides ever more views.

Finally coming round the lovely Loughrigg Tarn (seen in the film Miss Potter) and into Elterwater to perhaps enjoy one of the local pubs at the end of this rewarding walk.
