This circular walk starts from the Dales Museum in Hawes and follows the Pennine Way to The Green Dragon, where Hardraw Force may be visited. (The entry fee in 2020 is £4. The walk to the waterfall is included in the total mileage but it may be omitted).
A steep climb follows to reach the beck through Shaw Gill Woods which has an impressive number of falls before a series of fields is followed across the hillside, leading to a gentle descent back to the valley. Many of the field paths are paved with stone slabs and the stiles are easy, most being one step through a stone wall with a spring-loaded gate. This makes it easier both for dogs and dodgy knees. There are wide views of the surrounding hills from most of the walk.
