The walk goes from the Devil's Bridge by Kirkby Lonsdale to the south, where the village of Whittington is reached by lanes and footpaths with fine views from the higher sections. The return is entirely along the banks of the River Lune, which is attractive in a different way. The walk is short enough to allow an exploration of the small town and its cafes and pubs. The map shows a footpath to Sellet Mill and although this would be preferable to a walk along the road, however short, I found that floods made it impassable when I did the walk; I plan to look at this section again at another season. The ground around the stiles on the last part of the river section was also particularly muddy.
