This walk starts from either the free public car park in the centre of town, or the railway station. After a short stretch through the town, with the opportunity for a small diversion to see the memorials to Flora Thompson at the old post office and the library, you will soon strike out into the glorious countryside which Flora loved so much. 'Lark Rise to Candleford' is a semi-autobiographical trilogy about the English countryside and written about Flora Thompson's experiences when she lived in Oxfordshire, but no doubt her life as a postmistress influenced her writings. At the time of recording this walk we are enjoying the televised series on BBC TV and I'm pleased to report that a second series is planned for 2009.

The route is fairly flat, taking you through parkland, heathland and woodland with some sandy tracks and glorious views. Like all of the countryside there are a couple of muddy areas, so please make sure that you wear waterproof footwear.

There are no stiles and it is dog-friendly. My Labrador, Jagger, loved it!

A group of six completed this walk earlier today and we all really enjoyed it - crisp Winter weather though the walk was muddy in parts. We would recommend it - not onerous and with clear directions. Happy New Year !

An excellent walk with good, clear directions.

Completed this walk on a very wet August morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. The view at waypoint 8 is breathtaking, even in pouring rain! Thanks, and well done!
