Our walk leaves the National Parks Car Park at Steel Rigg with a short walk to join the Hadrian`s Wall trail. Here we climb sharply up onto the Crags of both Peel Crags & Highshield Crags where on a clear day you can enjoy some panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Continuing on to Hotbank Crags we then descend to Rapishaw gap where we leave the wall via the Pennine Way crossing Ridley Common to reach the edge of Wark Forest. Here we can enjoy some easy walking following the farm tracks past East & West Stonefolds, Greenlee and Gibbs with views over towards the wall across Greenlee Lough, before a steady climb back to the car park.

I did this Christmas Eve and added going to Housesteads Fort as a good little side trip. The path as it follows Pennine Way was very muddy most of the way until you leave it again so you just need to be prepared but I still enjoyed the walk. Thanks.

My wife and I did this walk in June 2011 and liked it very much. Thanks for putting it together for us to enjoy

At point 4, having turned left to leave Hadrian's Wall and crossing the stile, surely you then turn diagonally right (not left) to cross rough grassland.

An excellent walk, at point 7 a shortcut can be taken, instead of turning right towards Greenlee Farm you can go straight ahead following the way markers on a permitted path which includes a duck boardwalk around Greenlee Lough Nature Reserve and onto the road around Gibbs Hill Farm. This is not shown on the map and the track becomes a bit faint in places, but it's an option should you choose it.
