An interesting and varied walk through modern shooting country with continuous evidence of the 18th Century mining work. Take time to view the ruined buildings. It isn't difficult to imagine the smell, smoke and heat of this atmospheric and oppressive place. You will also pass the mouths of mine entrances and there is a temptation, to be avoided, to enter and explore further. The views are expansive over Swaledale and Arkengarthdale. The walk is mainly on well-defined tracks, although there is a short section across the summit which is moorland with wet areas.
